Float Trip

Hey i’m long overdue to add to this blog. So here’s some shots of our recent float trip.  The best part of living in upstate ny is the accessibility of great places to go and camp, from our boats.  Boats u paddle, canoes and kayaks.  Where do we go?  i already told u, upstate ny.

A view of the lake from our campsite, and lunch on the campfire.  When we head to these trips, we eat well.  Gotta keep our strength up.

Here’s my boat.  Got it used this spring.  She paddles like a dream, (especially with the rudder in the water!).

So as usual this was a fairly good sized group as u may have guessed by our lunch shot.  We would love to bring everyone we know but:

A – that would require way too many boats etc

B – would ruin the wilderness.  we want these places to be here intact for my great great grand kids and beyond.

So anyway i will be showing u more on this trip, which was the end of June.

Later, have a great day.

First Cutting

Got out my riding lawnmower yesterday.  Although it is classed as a riding mower, not a lawn tractor, i try to use it like a tractor.  I moved the little red shed up off the lawn into the tree line.  More preps of the yard for my garage build this summer.  dragged it with my “tractor”.

So while i had it out and running i cut the lawn tufts.  My lawn is not a sample of perfection.  the soil is sand.  a tiny bit of topsoil but mostly just sand.  Right in front of the house it grows good.  flat and more moisture.  But when spring comes there r spots that grow quick, and places it hasn’t started yet.  But the growing spots were high, a lovely spotty sight.

So I mowed.  Then ran out of gas.  had to make a quick trip for the petrol, then finished up.

Winter and Construction

Hey have u been enjoying the spring?  Its really starting to green up here, the tree buds are visible and soon will burst forth.  Reminds me of something that i learned when i used to go to school in Minneapolis Minnesota.

The northern Midwest of our country is noted for cold snowy winters.  So much so that in downtown Minneapolis many buildings are connected by walkway bridges across the streets on the second floors.  U can enter a building and walk for blocks crossing over the roads to other buildings all day without going back outside.

The climate there was described to me as really only two seasons:

Winter and Construction.  It was either too cold to go outside or warm enough to be building.  Of course there are truly 4 seasons but its accurate from a general point of view.

So that leads me to this – the construction of my own garage.  Still in the very early stages i am looking at the necessary steps to build a garage.  I’m psyched.

Will keep u posted.

Busy Busy

I must apologize for my lack of entertainment lately.

There is so much to do when u are recovering from a sucky too long winter and prepping for a busy summer in the middle of still earning a living by trading your hours for pay and wishing u could be done with that and trying to get the yard ready for building a garage while being slightly jealous of two-thirds of your offspring who already have one at the same time as watching Netflix too much becuz u love scifi and fantasy and then weeding out some of your cue as it seems too long a list even though the stuff u got rid of would likely b entertaining if only i could stay up 24 hours straight maybe i could get more things done.

hey who says long sentences r bad, confusing, fragmented unclear etc?

i just found this cool parable for writing, i like it take a look.

Seasonal Disorders

I’m sure you have heard stories about people stuck in a small cabin and snowed in for the entire winter.  Tensions rise, emotions take over and then the descent into insanity.  Well not always but the stories are there.  This location i live in is not prone to such maladies, but we truly had a lousy winter from my perspective.  The perspective of having a 60 minute commute and a snowy winter.  And what seemed excessive cold.

So it is with great enthusiasm that i greet my favorite seasonal emotional period:

SPRING FEVER!!!!!

I feel very happy and know it is also infecting the local population as well by the audio signals – you can hear the motorcycles and hot rods cruising as the driver winds up the engine and gets that wind in your hair sensation.  Although in this state the helmet is decreed by law.  That’s another subject.  For now – HAPPY SPRING!  YAHOO!

Tech / Sport

Credit where credit is due dept:  this is not my idea. Originally from a woman at my church, my wife taught Sunday School with her for a number of years. So Connie, i herby give u credit for noticing and describing the principle. I have decided its time to lay it out for the world to see and acknowledge, to name it and “scale” it, so those inclined may find themselves a spot in it.

The idea is this: us menfolk tend towards either technical skills and preferences, or sports skills and preferences.  By sports i mean a physical, coordination requiring activity such as, but not limited to: football, basketball, tennis, hockey. Etc.

So here’s my “Tech – Sport continium”. The center of the scale is M – for median. This would b someone who is evenly divided technically / sports sense. (Not sure if there r actually any people out there that would fit this spot on the scale. Just in case we will assume there should b.) So now your engineer types might be T+8 or T+9, a hard core programmer geek a T+10. While your pro football and hockey players might be S+9 or S+10. It seems to me it is rare for most techs to b really into sports. This is where i place myself. I also see that many sports types might have trouble wiring a light switch. Thats ok. I can wire a house but u can’t depend on me to consistently catch a ball thrown my way or shoot a great swoosh and “snap the cords”.
Both types can b taught the other end of the continium. We r just talking about the internal gift the person carries.
I have tried not to b negative in any way. There is no zero just a theoretical medium. Both sides of the scale are positives. We need warriors and builders, coders and quarterbacks to make the world go round. Any thoughts?

Paddling 01

My New Boat!!!!!!!  Ya i’m so excited!  just got me an awesome touring kayak.

Its a Clear Water Design – Gaspe.  16 feet, with rudder, ergonomic seat w/ pump up lumbar support, and a great paddle.

Gaspe1

Got it used (but not abused).  This will b perfect for our annual wilderness camping trips.  And now that i own my own boat i can go for short paddles around here just to enjoy the water.

Gaspe2

I would just like to thank the Lord, and also Bob who sold me this fine craft.

PSYCHED!!

Wood is Good 09 – Growing More Firewood

Below u see a stump on my property.  The power company came thru and cleared trees from under the power line last year.  The trees want to keep growing and there’s life still in the roots.

Woodstump1

Woodstump2

In order to concentrate the effort,  i select the strongest straightest shoot. The others are removed.  We will see how this works out.

Woodstump3

My theory is better one fat healthy trunk than a bunch of little ones all dividing the strength of the tree.
